again w/ the republicans.

In a previous entry I said one of the two things I would NOT miss about KY was the republicans. And I still stand by that, although I have many friends here that are republican, sometimes I still can not believe how closed-minded some people are. Growing up politics was never something that was discussed in my house and it was never something I thought I would care much about. Even in high school when we had to take political science, and this was in the dead middle of the Gore-Bush 2000 election, I still didn't care much. That was until this election. Maybe I am just more liberal and open-minded than the rest, but there are some things that people say and believe that honestly just leave me at a loss for words.

Since it is getting close to two weeks since the election, political talk has slowed down a lot, but tonight something was said to me, that i know i'll never forget... "i'm horrifically against the support of 'them'." I'm not going to name names, b/c thats just rude. But for people to be willing to deny others constitutional rights because of their own personal religion to me is mind blowing. Maybe its just because of where I'm from that makes me like this. Maybe its just because my family isn't as traditional as most. Maybe it all comes down to the fact that my mother always told me that she would never make any of my decisions for me (especially when it came to dating) and that's something I've always cherished, that my life is in fact that, my life. I would never want to impose my views on someone's life... and even that goes back to "treat people the way you want to be treated."

So for now I am keeping my political view to myself while I am still in the south (or according to an email i got, "jesusland.") But I know this... I will never stop fighting for what I believe in and I will never raise my kids to think they are better than anyone just because they practice a certain religion.
