This book tells the story of Bettina whose parents are hippies and were disappointed when she entered the corporate world of banking at USB after college. One day she decides she's had enough of her boss and just quits. Without knowing what she really wants to do she gets a job with an up and coming PR firm and quickly finds herself living a lifestyle she'll never get used to and one her parents/family can't stand. Then she finds her private life suddenly in every tabloid as she's dubbed the newest "it-party girl."
It's a good story of "what would you do in that situation" and of finding yourself. I recommend it, the ending is really good, too. Much better than The Devil Wears Prada.

So I picked this book up off the 3 for 2 table at Borders (the same night I bought Everyone Worth Knowing and 2 other books). So this was actually a very short read (I started it on my trip to Orlando and finished it last night -- but I really didnt' read any while in Orlando, had too much other stuff to do). So this story is actually very intense. It's about 2 little girls (Emma, 5 and Carrie, 8). They're dad died when they were both very young and their mom then re-marries -- to a very angry/drunk/abusive man named Richard. He tears the family away from the town they know and begins to ruin their life. It's hard to read b/c it's pretty violent -- and heartbreaking when it's told through Carrie's voice. The girls try to run away, but when that doesn't work things eventually get worse. I can't go into to much detail b/c the ending was a huge surprise, well 2 things major happen at the end -- the first you kind of see coming but the other is a shock. I'd recommend it -- but be warned it is pretty intense.
So you can tell why I titled this post "Total Opposites" -- these books couldn't have been more different. But i like to read books that way, switch them out -- so now i'm on to a total chic-lit book called "Good in Bed" by the author of In Her Shoes.
Again, if anyone wants to borrow any books just let me know!!
