Alright - for all you eager to hear about my trip this is how it went (with some of the photos I took).
So of COURSE my flight got delayed Thursday night. I was suppose to leave O’Hare at 2:50 – didn’t end up leaving until 6:30 or so. Got in at 9 (way later than I had planned). But not a huge deal. So when I got to Brooklyn, where Kay lives, we got dinner (as I hadn’t had anything since breakfast and the whole time we were delayed we were ON the plane! I hate when that happens). We ate at a great little cafe in Brooklyn, my turkey burger was fantastic, if you care. :)
Friday Kay had to work, so I ventured out by myself. I managed to successfully get from Brooklyn to Central Park without getting lost. I walked around Central Park, saw one of the Trump Towers, and walked down 5th Ave. I surprisingly didn’t do much shopping – though I went into about 100 stores. Then I wandered pretty far and got to Times Square. From there I was pretty tired, so I took the subway downtown to where Kay works. Since she wasn't off yet I just hung around Madison Square Park for an hour.
After Kay got off work we went back to Brooklyn to rest and get dinner. Then we went to Times Square (so I could see it at night); that area is just so surreal and like it looks exactly like it does in every movie. But it was WAY to crowded. I wouldn’t wander around there again unless I had a specific place to go that was there. Then we got drinks at Rockefeller Center and just hung out in Manhattan.
Saturday we did some more shopping in midtown; near the OMD office. We were going to go down to Battery Park to see the Statue of Liberty, but the 1 subway wasn’t running and you had to take a shuttle bus, so we decided to say screw it and just went back to Brooklyn. We rested for a while and then decided we were pretty tired so we just went to the movies. We saw Monster House in 3-D!! It was SO good; except for the six 13-year old boys who wouldn’t stop talking in front of us.
Then Sunday we got up and went and took the Staten Island ferry so we could get a good view of the city and the Statue (since we couldn’t get to Battery Park the day before). It was a better idea anyway b/c it was free and a shorter trip than the Statue ferry. Then we went to the Village and got cupcakes from Magnolia’s (apparently this place is pretty famous, as we stood in line for 20 minutes!). I brought some home for my parents & Tom (they all loved them.)
I managed to get to the airport WAY early yesterday, I tried to get on an earlier flight, but of course that didn't happen. So I got home about 10:00 on Sunday. Between the heat and the walking my body is so mad at me. But it was a good trip all in all; it was a great to hang out with Kay and get to see so many sites.
This may sound weird b/c I went to visit a friend, but I didn't get any photos of myself or her all weekend! I guess it's b/c we didn't do anything too exciting, it was more about seeing the sites, so obviously I have quite a few scenic photos. I'll post those when I get a chance!!!
