So as I posted my last entry I realized I never told you all what I thought about Memoirs of a Geisha. Well... I LOVED IT! Though I feel it's one of those novels that is very hard not to at least like. It takes you on such a journey and really gives you an understading of what the word Geisha means.
The story is about a young girl who is taken away from her family, split up from her sister and forced to live and work in a Geisha house. Due to her need for her sister she winds up getting herself into a lot of trouble, and eventually comes to be hated by the main Geisha of the house, Hatsummo.
The story basically takes you through the life of this woman as she aspires to become one of the greatest Geisha, all in the name of love (which is what most Geisha never have, real love).
It's beautifully written and very moving. :) I would definetly recommend it.
So after reading it I actually bought the soundtrack to the movie. The soundtrack is just so beautfiul and extremely calming (it's good music to listen to while soaking in the tub).
But then Amy and I went and saw the film this past weekend... it was also FANTASTIC. It's one of the few movies taken from a book that actually stayed true to the book. I do believe I only noticed one additional scene, everything else was just as the book described. Obviously some was cut out due to time restrictions, but they left most of the important details. :)
I recommend it all, Book, Film and Soundtrack.
